PLAN YOUR BUSINESS MANAGEMENT STUDIES WITH IBTC

You can start at any time and set your own pace. We send you all the study material, study aids, planning tools and assessments you need to generate a semester mark and to prepare for your final business management exams.

Use our Study and Assessment Plan to plan your studies. Our dedicated Course Monitor will walk the road with you and encourage you throughout your studies. His job is to make sure you stay on track. Our dedicated Business Management tutors are subject-experts and there to help you if you get stuck. You have unlimited access to your tutor.

HOW MANY BUSINESS MANAGEMENT SUBJECTS TO DO IN A SEMESTER?

Most of our students start off with 2 subjects, because they work during the day and study in the evenings and over weekends. We recommend that you have 2 – 3 study sessions per week per subjects. So you will see that 2 subjects will fill up your week quite substantially. There are off course students who can take on more subjects at a time, but most of our students achieve success by studying 2 subjects at a time and sitting two subjects per exam sitting.

YOUR BUSINESS MANAGEMENT SEMESTER MARK

You will submit assessments to your college to generate a semester mark for each subject. You need a semester mark to enter for the exam. Submit all your assessments before 22 January if you are planning to sit the June exam and before 1 July if you are planning to sit the November exam. If your semester mark >40%, you can may enter for the exam.

YOUR BUSINESS MANAGEMENT EXAM

You must enter for the exam before 22 Feb (for the June exam) and 1 August (for the November exam). Write your exam at our exam centres in Sandton and Cape Town. If you are unable to attend these centres, we can make arrangements for you to sit at a local TVET college in your area. You can sit up to 4 subjects in a sitting.

PROGRESSING TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Once you have successfully passed all four subjects in a level, the Department of Higher Education and Training will issue you with a National Certificate and you may progress to the next level.

THREE GOOD REASONS TO STUDY BUSINESS MANAGEMENT

Whether you are starting a business or managing a business, you are going to need to know the basics principles to avoid the pitfalls. A solid business manager is never without a job.

Not everybody has the qualities to be an outstanding business manager. A business manager has confidence in his or her ability to succeed, the urge to achieve, the skills to organise, can take on responsibility, is energetic, can see where there is an opportunity, can take a leadership role and is good with implementation. The truth is that people are seldom born with all these qualities, but if you want to be a good business manager, you can surely develop these qualities and improve them with practice.

You can enhance your business management qualities by using the resources around you, knowing the pitfalls and learning how to avoid them, and building on your personal strengths – you will then be able to apply these skills to enhance your career and enrich your life.

Here are three reasons why this course could be right for you.

ONE: Your work experience is not enough to get you ahead

Your own experience may have gotten you this far, but it is virtually impossible to know everything from work experience alone. In the world of business and management, theory, strategies and insights for thought leaders on the subject can far surpass your job experience. You can learn from others about ALL sides of business which you are not currently exposed to.

TWO: You are being overtaken by technology

How well do you think you know the latest technology in communication, project management, business processes and business? Technology continues to reinvent and replace processes, change jobs or replace jobs, so you cannot afford to be left behind. Learn the basic technology and also acquire the skill to adopt new technologies.

THREE: Your understanding is limited to your current role

It’s essential that you get a big picture view of business end-to-end. We are often limited to our own job roles, but to move up the corporate ladder (or set up your own business), you need to understand all areas of operations and understand how they work together.

One of the best business management courses to consider is the Department of Higher Education and Training’s National Diploma in Business Management N6.

This 3-year course builds critical skills for better productivity, efficiency and performance in the world of business. It’s ideal for post-school adults with a couple of years working experience who want to improve their career prospects or start their own business.
